Literary Breakthrough
Asprin's publishing journey began in 1978, but his early works failed to gain traction. Fortune smiled upon him a year later with the release of "Another Fine Myth," the first installment in the beloved M.Y.T.H. series. This series chronicled the adventures of Skeeve, a young magician, and Aaz, his demon mentor. The M.Y.T.H. saga, spanning twelve novels, is widely regarded as Asprin's literary masterpiece.
Phule's Saga and Other Successes
Asprin's other notable achievement was the Phule's Saga, a humorous trilogy featuring Captain Phule. Placed in command of an eccentric crew from various galactic races, Phule transforms them into an exemplary fighting force.
Creative Hiatus and Return
In the mid-1990s, Asprin's writing output dwindled. He expressed plans to return to accounting or pursue a career as a street musician, citing creative burnout and a dispute with the IRS over convention income. The conflict with tax authorities resulted in the loss of royalties from his future works. However, in 2001, he resumed his literary endeavors, collaborating with other writers, including his wife, Lynn Abbey. Two concluding novels in the M.Y.T.H. series were published soon after.
International Recognition
Asprin's novels made their Russian debut in 1993, where they garnered immense popularity. The M.Y.T.H. series, in particular, propelled him to stardom in Russia, where he enjoyed a greater following than in his native country.
