Early Life and Family

Richard Lewis was born into a Jewish family in Brooklyn, New York, and raised in Englewood, New Jersey. His father worked as a chef, while his mother was an actress. Despite their religious affiliation, the Lewis family was not particularly devout.

From a young age, Richard displayed a knack for jokes and pranks, often to the chagrin of his teachers. He attended Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity in college and later enrolled at Ohio State University.
