Biography of Rick Springfield

Rick Springfield, whose real name is Richard Lewis Springthorpe, was born in 1949 in Sydney, Australia. At the age of 13, he received his first guitar as a gift, and three years later, he formed his first band called 'The Jordy Boys'. He later played in the band 'Rock House' and in 1972, he released his debut album 'Beginnings'.

Although several of his subsequent works faced little success, Springfield's breakthrough came in 1981 with the release of his single 'Jessie's Girl', which quickly topped the charts in the United States and achieved platinum status. Alongside his music career, Springfield ventured into acting and appeared in popular TV shows and movies such as 'The Six Million Dollar Man', 'The Rockford Files', 'Wonder Woman', 'The Incredible Hulk', 'Battlestar Galactica', and several others.

In the 1990s, Springfield dedicated more time to his acting career but returned to music in the new millennium. He achieved significant success on TV with his role as Dr. Noah Drake in the long-running soap opera 'General Hospital'. His most famous single, 'Jessie's Girl', coincided with his rise as an actor in 1981.

In 1984, Springfield played the lead character, James, in the musical drama 'Hard to Hold'. In 1990, he starred as the main character in the thriller 'Dead Reckoning'. Throughout the 1990s, Springfield continued to act in various television films such as 'Silent Motive' in 1991, 'The Dark Side of the Sun' in 1994, and 'Legion' in 1998.

In 1999, after a decade-long hiatus, Springfield returned to music with the release of his album 'Karma'. He followed this with albums such as 'Shock/Denial/Anger/Acceptance' in 2004, 'The Day After Yesterday' in 2005, and 'Venus in Overdrive' in 2008. 'Venus in Overdrive' was recorded in just 32 days, with bass guitarist Matt Bissonette, who has been playing with Springfield for a long time, contributing to the recording.

Despite facing personal challenges, including accusations of physical violence towards his wife in 2000, Springfield continues to be active in both music and acting. Today, at the age of 60, he continues to perform in concerts worldwide and writes his own songs. He has released seventeen albums and has over 35 roles in movies and TV shows to his credit. For his musical achievements, he has been awarded the 'American Music Award' and a 'Grammy'.

Springfield's most recent album, 'My Precious Little One: Lullabies For A New Generation', was released in 2009.
