Biography of Rita Gorr
Rita Gorr (born 1926) is a Belgian singer and mezzo-soprano. She made her debut in 1949 in Antwerp, performing the role of Fricka in Wagner's "The Rhinegold". She also sang at the Bayreuth Festival from 1958 to 1959. Gorr was a soloist with the Opéra-Comique, where she debuted in the role of Charlotte in Massenet's "Werther".
Achievements
Gorr achieved great success in the role of Amneris at Covent Garden in 1959 and the Metropolitan Opera in 1962. She also performed multiple times at La Scala, singing the roles of Santuzza in "Cavalleria Rusticana" and Kundry in "Parsifal". Her repertoire also included roles such as Azucena, Ulrica in "Un Ballo in Maschera", and Dalila. In the 1990s, she took on the roles of the Countess and Kabanicha in Janacek's opera "Katya Kabanova".
French Repertoire
Gorr's career prominently featured the French repertoire. Her recordings of Poulenc's "Dialogues of the Carmelites" as Madame de Croissy, conducted by Nagano, and Saint-Saëns' "Samson et Dalila" in the title role, conducted by Pretre, are of significant interest.
