Early Life and EducationRobert Bechtle, an American contemporary photorealist, displayed an early talent for drawing. He studied painting at California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland during the late 1950s.
Military Service and Artistic Influences
After graduating, Bechtle served in the US Army in Berlin, which provided him with the opportunity to visit Europe's major art museums. This exposure to European art profoundly influenced his artistic development.
Artistic Career
Upon returning to the United States, Bechtle dedicated himself to painting. He experimented with acrylics, watercolors, and lithography. From 1978 to 1999, he taught at San Francisco State University.
