Founding Trust Company of the West
After a brief stint as a manager at White, Weld & Co., Day established Trust Company of the West (TCW) in 1971. Under his leadership, TCW flourished, amassing over $100 billion in assets and becoming the largest independent trust company in the United States.
Acquisition and Legacy
In 2001, Day strategically sold 70% of TCW to French bank Societe Generale for a hefty $2.5 billion. Despite stepping back from daily operations, he continued to serve as Chairman of TCW's Board.
