Biography of Robert Garrett
Robert Garrett was an American track and field athlete, known for his sprinting abilities. He was a two-time Olympic champion and a four-time medalist at the Summer Olympic Games.
Early Career
Garrett competed in four different track and field disciplines, winning a medal in each of them. On April 6, he participated in the discus throw event and emerged as the winner with a distance of 29.15 meters. It is worth mentioning that Garrett had only learned how to throw the discus a few days before the competition.
On April 7, Garrett took part in the long jump and shot put. He won the shot put event with a throw of 11.22 meters and secured the second place in the long jump with a jump of exactly 6 meters.
On the final day of the competition, April 10, Garrett competed in the high jump. He shared the second place with his fellow countryman James Connolly, both clearing a height of 1.65 meters.
Olympic Games in Paris
At the Summer Olympic Games in Paris, Garrett participated in athletics and tug of war events. Although he represented the national team several times in tug of war, they did not qualify for the finals.
In athletics, Garrett competed in three disciplines. On July 14, he took part in the discus throw and shot put. Unfortunately, he failed to qualify in the discus throw event, throwing the discus into the spectators' area three times. However, he managed to qualify in the shot put, finishing in third place. Although Garrett did not compete in the finals on July 15, his qualifying result earned him the bronze medal.
On July 16, Garrett competed in the triple jump. With a distance of 9.50 meters, he once again finished in third place.
