Robert Lebel: Hockey Executive and Administrator
Robert Lebel was a prominent figure in the world of hockey. He served as the President of the Quebec Amateur Hockey League (QAHL) from 1955 to 1957, the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association (CAHA) from 1957 to 1969, and the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) from 1960 to 1963.
Early Career
Prior to his presidency of the QAHL, Lebel founded and led the Interprovincial Senior League from 1944 to 1947. In 1947, the shoe business executive became President of the QAHL.
International Leadership
Lebel's presidency of the IIHF spanned from 1960 to 1963. During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in fostering hockey connections between North America and Europe. He initiated the annual tours of Soviet hockey players to Canada.
Recognition and Legacy
Lebel's contributions to hockey were recognized with his induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, Canada, in 1970. He was also bestowed the honor of Lifetime Honorary Membership in both the QAHL and CAHA in 1964.
Local Involvement
Beyond his hockey career, Lebel held the position of Mayor of Chambly, Quebec, Canada.
