Robert Lewandowski: Polish Football Icon

Early Career

Robert Lewandowski was born on August 21, 1988, in Warsaw, Poland. He began his football career at the age of nine with Partizan Leszno, where his father worked. Until 2004, he played for Varsovia Warsaw. He then moved to Delta Warsaw and Legia II Warsaw. In the summer of 2006, he transferred to Znicz Pruszków.

Zenith in Poland: Lech Poznań

In July 2008, Lewandowski signed a five-year contract with Lech Poznań for a transfer fee of 1.5 million Polish złoty. He made his Ekstraklasa debut on August 8, 2008, and scored his first goal for the club against Bełchatów on August 17. Lewandowski also played a pivotal role in Lech's UEFA Cup campaign, scoring against Khazar Lankaran, Grasshopper Zürich, and Austria Wien.

In the 2008/09 season, Lewandowski helped Lech Poznań finish third in the league and win the Polish Cup. He was named Polish Footballer of the Year in December 2008.

Borussia Dortmund

On July 1, 2010, Lewandowski transferred to Borussia Dortmund for a fee of €4.75 million. He made his Bundesliga debut on August 22, 2010, and scored his first goal for the club against Schalke 04 on September 19. With Dortmund, Lewandowski won the Bundesliga in 2010/11 and 2011/12, and the German Cup in 2011/12. He was named Bundesliga Player of the Season in 2011/12 and was the tournament's top scorer in 2013/14.

Bayern Munich

On January 4, 2014, Lewandowski signed a five-year contract with Bayern Munich, effective from July 1, 2014. In his first match for Bayern, he scored against Duisburg. On September 22, 2015, Lewandowski set a Bundesliga record by scoring five goals in nine minutes against Wolfsburg.

With Bayern, Lewandowski has won the Bundesliga four times, the DFB-Pokal, and the DFL-Supercup twice. He has also been named Bundesliga Player of the Season twice and Bundesliga Top Scorer three times.

International Career

Lewandowski made his international debut for Poland in 2009. He represented Poland at UEFA Euro 2012, scoring the opening goal of the tournament. He also played at UEFA Euro 2016 and the 2018 FIFA World Cup, where he scored a record-breaking 16 goals in qualifying.

Lewandowski is Poland's all-time leading scorer with 52 goals. He was named Polish Footballer of the Year seven times and was named Poland's Sportsperson of the Year in 2015.

Personal Life

Lewandowski is married to professional karateka Anna Lewandowska. They have a daughter, Klara, who was born in 2017.
