PanamaEarly Life and Club Career
Born in Panama City, Panama, Aníbal Godoy began his footballing journey with Club Deportivo Chepo's youth academy. He then moved to Vista Alegre in the Panamanian Second Division from 2010 to 2012. In 2013, Godoy joined San Francisco FC, also playing in the Second Division.
In 2014, he secured a loan move to Liga Panameña de Fútbol outfit Plaza Amador. During his stint with Plaza Amador, Godoy made 31 league appearances, scoring seven goals.
Threat of Disqualification
On August 2, 2015, Godoy's transfer to San Francisco FC was announced. However, on August 4, the Panamanian Football Federation (FEPAFUT) initiated an investigation into alleged irregularities in his contract proceedings. A disciplinary commission subsequently imposed a four to six-month suspension on Godoy.
San Francisco FC relinquished his services, while his contract with San Francisco FC expired on August 11. As a free agent, Godoy was prohibited from signing with a new club during the potential suspension period. Ultimately, FEPAFUT decided against punishing Godoy, who then re-signed with Plaza Amador on September 17.
International Career
Godoy made his international debut for the Panama national football team on June 3, 2015, in a friendly match against Ecuador (1-1 draw). He was subsequently called up for the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup. During the tournament, Godoy featured in five of the six matches, missing the third-place contest due to suspension. He scored a crucial penalty in the quarterfinal penalty shootout victory over Trinidad and Tobago.
Personal Life
Alongside his football career, Godoy pursues higher education at the University of Panama, studying for a degree in Maritime Business Management.
