Biography of Robert Orben

Robert Orben is an American magician and professional humorist who gained recognition for his unique blend of humor and illusionist skills. He published his first humorous book, a collection of comedic speeches, at the young age of 18 while working at a magic shop. Many of his books went on to achieve immense popularity and were repeatedly reprinted. Quotes from his books were widely used by humorists of the time.

During a time when the comedic genre in America was still in its early stages, Orben's ability to combine a subtle sense of humor with his illusionist talents greatly contributed to his success in the field. Additionally, his work as a writer was complemented by the fact that there were very few humorist writers at the time.

Aside from writing books, Robert Orben also published an informational humor newsletter for nearly 30 years until 1989. His witty humor caught the attention of some of the greatest comedians of that era, including Dick Gregory, Red Skelton, and Jack Paar. Many of the texts they voiced were written by Robert Orben.

In 1973, Orben developed an interest in politics and found an outlet for his writing talent in this field as well. He became the speechwriter for then-Vice President Gerald Ford. After Ford became the President of the United States in January 1976, Orben was appointed as a special assistant to the president and the director of the White House Speechwriting Department.

Starting from 2007, Orben has been engaged by the U.S. government as a writer for conducting corporate events. Currently, Robert Orben resides in Falls Church, Virginia, in the United States.
