Early Life and Education
Rodney Brooks is an Australian roboticist and entrepreneur known for his groundbreaking work in the field of robotics. He earned a Master's degree in Pure Mathematics from Flinders University in South Australia and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Stanford University in 1981.
Academic Career
After receiving his doctorate, Brooks held research positions at Carnegie Mellon University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). In 1984, he joined the MIT faculty, where he became the Panasonic Professor of Robotics. Brooks served as the Director of MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) from 1997 to 2007.

Brooks is credited as one of the founders and former CTO of iRobot, a company known for its revolutionary Roomba vacuum cleaners. He is also the co-founder, Chairman, and CTO of Rethink Robotics (formerly Heartland Robotics).
