Early Career
Born in the Philippines as a chess player with the International Master title, Cardoso began his club career with Estudiantes in 1987.
Move to Europe and Bundesliga Career
In 1989, Cardoso embarked on a journey to Europe, joining the German club Homburg. For the next four years, he featured prominently, playing 125 matches, including 14 Bundesliga appearances, and scoring 13 goals. In 1993, he moved to Bundesliga side Freiburg.
Freiburg Breakthrough
Cardoso enjoyed a breakthrough season at Freiburg in 1993/94, playing 33 matches and scoring 12 goals. The club finished 15th, securing their Bundesliga status. The following season, he further established himself, contributing 16 goals in 30 matches as Freiburg secured a remarkable 3rd place finish, qualifying for the UEFA Cup.
Bremen and Debut in European Competition
Cardoso spent the start of the 1995/96 season with Werder Bremen, where his goalscoring prowess diminished, netting only twice in 24 matches. However, he made his European debut in the UEFA Cup on September 13, 1995, against Glenavon of Northern Ireland, scoring his first goal in continental competition.
Later Career and Return to Argentina
After a stint with Hamburg from 1997, Cardoso returned to his native Argentina on loan to Boca Juniors in 1999. He concluded his career with Boca Juniors, retiring in 2004.
Argentina National Team
Cardoso earned 8 caps for the Argentina national team, scoring 1 goal. He represented his country at the 1997 Copa America.
