Born into a family of esteemed journalists in Chicago, Illinois, Roger McGuinn's passion for music ignited after hearing Elvis Presley's "Heartbreak Hotel." He pursued his interest in folk music at the Old Town School of Folk Music and honed his skills as a banjo player.

Early Career: From Coffeehouses to the Big Stage

McGuinn's musical journey led him to perform in coffeehouses and tour with renowned folk groups like The Limeliters and Chad Mitchell Trio. His exceptional talent caught the attention of Bobby Darin, who invited him to join his band.

After Darin's absence due to illness, McGuinn secured a position at Doug Weston's Troubadour studio in Los Angeles. It was here that he found his musical companions and formed the legendary band The Byrds.
