Biography of Roman Herman
Roman Herman was a Ukrainian man and the son of politician Anna Herman, who served as a people's deputy. Unfortunately, Roman's life was cut short in a tragic car accident on the Odessa-Kiev highway near the village of Grushki in the Kirovohrad region. It took some time to fully reconstruct the details of the accident, but eventually the entire picture of what happened was pieced together.
Roman was traveling back from Odessa with his brother-in-law's brother, Maxim Zel, in a BMW-335. Maxim was driving the car, and they were traveling at a high speed when they collided with a truck on the far right lane. The impact caused the BMW to catch fire, and while Maxim managed to survive, Roman tragically lost his life as his body was torn apart.
The driver of the truck, a Mercedes 1422, did not suffer any injuries. The official version of events stated that Maxim lost control of the car and crashed into the oncoming vehicle at an excessive speed, leading to the fatal collision. This incident was considered a violation of traffic safety rules and regulations, as stated in Article 286, Part 2 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code.
However, journalists were able to uncover some interesting details that added complexity to the official version. It was discovered that just 400 meters away from the accident site, there was a restaurant and hotel complex called "Bat'kivs'ka Khata," owned by the rector of the Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts, Mikhail Poplavsky. Eyewitnesses claimed that the victims had been at the restaurant complex shortly before the collision, and the driver appeared to be in an impaired state, as the car was swerving from side to side.
Roman was accompanied by his brother, Nikolai, and his sister-in-law, who were also enjoying their evening at the hotel restaurant "Krapiva" in Odessa. The plan was for all four of them to spend the night at the hotel. After leaving the restaurant, Nikolai and his wife went to sleep, while Roman and Maxim decided to continue their fun at "Bat'kivs'ka Khata." They proudly showcased the capabilities of their car to those around them before embarking on their fateful last trip.
Roman's funeral took place on June 16th, and prominent figures in Ukrainian politics, such as Raisa Bogatyreva, Yuriy Boyko, Volodymyr Lytvyn, Volodymyr Lukyanov, and even Viktor Yushchenko and Viktor Yanukovych, expressed their condolences to Anna Herman.
