Early Life and Theatrical BeginningsRoman Izayev was born in Derbent, Dagestan ASSR, USSR, and embarked on his theatrical journey at the tender age of 17. Invited by renowned actress Akhsho Shalomova, he joined the Gorsky Jewish theater in his hometown, a pivotal moment that ignited his passion for the stage.
Artistic Director and Leading Actor in Derbent
From 1986 to 2001, Izayev assumed the role of Artistic Director of the Gorsky Jewish theater in Derbent. During his tenure, he showcased his exceptional acting skills in numerous productions, earning recognition for his talent.
Immigration to Israel and Founding of "Rambam" Theater
In 2001, Roman Izayev immigrated to Israel, where he established the Gorsky Jewish theater "Rambam" in the city of Hadera. As its Artistic Director, Actor, Playwright, and Set Designer, he played a multifaceted role in the theater's success.
Playwright and International Tours
Beyond his acting prowess, Izayev penned two plays in the Gorsky Jewish language: "Shuver se zeni" ("Муж трех жен") and "E khori Bebeho" ("Земля обетованная"). Under his leadership, "Rambam" toured extensively throughout Israel and even performed abroad in Russia, Azerbaijan, Canada, and the United States.
Artistic Productions and Collaborations
Izayev's repertoire included noteworthy productions such as "Shimi Derbendi" and "Kishdi khomoli," based on the writings of Hiziqil Avshalumov. He also directed one-act plays by Mikhail Dadash and Vyacheslav Davydov.
Retirement and Legacy
In 2017, a sudden illness forced Roman Izayev to bid farewell to the stage. His last days were spent in Or-Akiva, Israel, where he passed away on April 29, 2018, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the world of Gorsky Jewish theater.
