Early Life and Career
German actor and theatre director, Helmut Griem was born in Hamburg, Germany. Despite successful work in film and television, he remained primarily a stage actor throughout his career, performing in theaters in Hamburg, Vienna, Berlin, and Munich.
Breakthrough Roles
Griem's breakthrough role came in the 1969 film "The Damned" by Luchino Visconti. His performance as Aschenbach gained him widespread recognition. He went on to star in several more films, including "Cabaret" (1972) by Bob Fosse and "Ludwig" (1972).
Television and Film
Griem also had a successful television career, appearing in numerous German and international productions. Notably, he played Erwin Rommel in the 1990 film "Conspiracy Against Hitler."
Theatrical Directing
In his later years, Griem turned to directing. His notable productions included Eugene O'Neill's "Long Day's Journey into Night."
Death and Burial
