Roman Knizka: German Actor with a Slavic Surname
Early Life and TrainingRoman Knizka, a German citizen with Slavic roots, was born on February 8, 1970, in Bautzen, Saxony. His parents were artists, his mother a singer and his father, a Slovak, a choreographer in the Sorbian National Ensemble. After completing his carpentry apprenticeship, Knizka worked as a decorator at the Dresden Opera. Following the fall of the Berlin Wall, he fled to West Germany.
Knizka studied acting at the Drama School in Bochum. During his studies, he performed in popular open-air productions at Weitmhar Castle Park.
Film and Television Career
Knizka made his screen debut in 1996 in a short film and a supporting role in the film "Die Halbstarken." In 1999, he portrayed Michi Holzner in "Schlaraffenland," which featured stars like Heiner Lauterbach and Franka Potente.
Knizka's other notable roles include an SS soldier in the Oscar-nominated Dutch film "Twin Sisters" (2002) and the lead role of Moritz, a security guard, in the German thriller "Mathilde." He has also displayed his comedic chops in films like "Opfer der Mode" (2007) and "Groupies bleiben nicht zum Frühstück" (2006). Knizka's fame in the CIS region stems from his portrayal of Anton Parec in the popular television series "Kommissar Rex."
Personal Life
In 2012, Knizka married teacher Stephanie Mensing, the mother of his two sons. One of their sons, Leo, appeared in the television film "Ein Dorf rockt ab," in which Knizka played the lead role. In 2018, Knizka left his wife and began a relationship with revue dancer Nele Herrmann.
Knizka supports the Alina Reimer Foundation, which aids young people with cancer.
Recent Projects
In 2021, Knizka starred in the miniseries "Endlich Sommer," where he played Sven, an insurance agent and motivational speaker. He also appeared in the comedy-detective film "Wer einmal stirbt, dem glaubt man nicht."
On December 2, 2021, Knizka's latest film, "Pilot," was released. Directed by Renat Davletyarov, the film follows the story of Soviet pilot Nikolai Komlev and his German nemesis. Knizka portrays an Oberleutnant who respects his opponent but views pursuing the wounded pilot as a form of hunting.
