O'Sullivan's talent in snooker was evident from a young age. At the age of 10, he made a century break of 117 points in an amateur tournament, and at 13, he made a clearance of 142 points. At 14, he became the British junior champion, and at 15, he made his first maximum break in a junior (amateur) championship in England. His youth career started with reaching the quarter-finals of the Under-19 Players Championship in 1991, but he lost in the semi-finals. In the same year, he won his first major tournament, the IBSF World Championship in the under-21 category. In 1992, he reached the final of the South of England Championship among amateurs, one of the last tournaments he participated in as an amateur, but lost to Stephen Lee. At the age of 16, O'Sullivan started his professional career. He qualified for all the final stages of ranking tournaments after winning 38 consecutive matches in the qualification process. Even at this early stage of his career, he was already considered by experts as a future world champion. In that season, he reached the quarter-finals once in ranking tournaments and was eliminated in the last 32 stage five times. He repeated Stephen Hendry's achievement by qualifying for the World Championship at the age of 17. Although he lost in the first round to Alan McManus 7-10, it was a very strong result.

In the following seasons, O'Sullivan won several tournaments, including the British Open, China International, and Scottish Open. He also reached the semi-finals and quarter-finals of various tournaments. He became a strong contender for the World Championship and reached the semi-finals in 1996 and 1997. In the 1997/98 season, he won his second British Open title and was disqualified from the Benson & Hedges Irish Masters due to a failed drug test. He continued to achieve success in the following seasons, winning titles such as the Regal Masters and the Welsh Open.

In the 2000/01 season, O'Sullivan finally won his first World Championship title, fulfilling the predictions made about him in his early teenage years. He reached the top of the world rankings and continued his success in the following seasons, winning numerous tournaments and maintaining his position as one of the top players in the world.

However, O'Sullivan faced challenges and setbacks in his career, including periods of inconsistent performance and personal struggles. Despite these challenges, he remains one of the most talented and successful snooker players in history.
