Acting Career

In the 1950s, Schiaffino started her acting career and gained recognition for her roles in post-neorealist films. She caught the attention of film producer Franco Cristaldi, who cast her in the 1959 movie "Piece of the Sky" alongside Marcello Mastroianni. Although her debut was successful, her breakthrough role came in the film "La sfida" (The Challenge) directed by Francesco Rosi. Schiaffino's portrayal of a Neapolitan girl garnered attention from both audiences and critics. The film received a warm reception at the 1958 Venice Film Festival.

Schiaffino was initially promoted as the "Italian Hedy Lamarr," but it became clear that her talents were better suited for the popular Italian sex symbol roles of the time, such as Gina Lollobrigida and Sophia Loren. In the early 1960s, she faced strong competition from actress Claudia Cardinale.

Personal Life and Later Years

In 1966, Schiaffino married producer Alfredo Bini. After several films that went unnoticed by both critics and audiences, she decided to leave the film industry. In 1976, she divorced Bini, with whom she had a daughter. Schiaffino started a new life in high society.

In the summer of 1980, while in Portofino, she met Giorgio Enrico Falck, a wealthy playboy and heir to a significant portion of the steel industry at the time. Their relationship quickly became the subject of tabloid rumors. Schiaffino gave birth to a son named Guido in 1981, and they got married in 1982. However, their marriage was not strong, and it eventually ended after Schiaffino was diagnosed with breast cancer. The separation led to unpleasant legal battles over their son and assets.

After a long and painful illness, Rosanna Schiaffino passed away on October 17, 2009, at the age of sixty-nine.
