Early Life and Education
Rosonda "Chilli" Thomas was born on May 27, 1971, in Atlanta, Georgia. Her father, Abdul Ali, is of East Indian descent, while her mother, Ava Thomas, is of African-American and Native American heritage. Rosonda attended B.E. Mays High School.
Music Career
Damian Dame and TLCRosonda began her music career as a dancer for the R&B duo Damian Dame. In 1991, she joined the girl group TLC, replacing Crystal Jones. To keep the group's name unchanged, she adopted the stage name "Chilli."
TLC became one of the best-selling female music groups, with over 40 million records sold worldwide. After the tragic death of group member Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes in 2002, Thomas and Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins continued performing as a duo. They embarked on a concert tour in 2009 and planned to release a new album.
Solo Career
Rosonda began working on a solo album in 2001, after the promotional campaign for TLC's third album, "FanMail." She later confirmed the title of her album as "Bi-Polar," but no release date has been announced. However, a track from the album, "Gameproof," was leaked in 2006, followed by the release of "Straight Jack" featuring Missy Elliott in 2007. Her first official solo single, "Dumb, Dumb, Dumb," was released in 2008.
