Short Biography of Ruben Akopyan

Ruben Karapetovich Akopyan was an Armenian politician, statesman, and diplomat. He was born on December 17, 1955, in the district named after Kamo Gavar. Akopyan graduated from Leningrad State University in 1983, where he studied journalism and philology. He began his career as a worker at the "Dipol" Production Association in the village of Kamo from 1972 to 1974. Following that, he served in the Soviet army from 1974 to 1976.

Political Career

From 1984 to 1990, Akopyan held the position of the head of the Department of Economic Propaganda at the main editorial office of television programs at Goskleradio Armenia. He then became a deputy of the Gavar City Council and later a deputy of the Supreme Council, where he was a member of the permanent commission on informatization. Akopyan was also a member of the Constitutional Commission of the Supreme Council of Armenia from 1994 to 1995.

From 1995 to 1999, Akopyan served as a member of parliament and was a member of the permanent commission on science, education, and youth. He was also the chairman of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation-Dashnaktsutyun (ARF-D) party. On May 30, 1999, he was re-elected as a member of parliament and became a member of the permanent commission on state-legal issues. He remained a member of the ARF-D.

Diplomatic Career

On July 1, 2000, Ruben Akopyan was appointed as the Consul General of Armenia in St. Petersburg. In this role, he represented the interests of Armenia in Russia and worked to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries. His diplomatic service in St. Petersburg showcased his expertise in international relations and his commitment to promoting Armenia's interests abroad.

Throughout his career, Ruben Akopyan made significant contributions to Armenian politics, serving in various government positions and playing an active role in the ARF-D party. He demonstrated his dedication to his country and its people through his work as a politician, statesman, and diplomat.
