Early LifeIn 2007, Issy Evans was born in Cardiff, Wales. Her journey with gymnastics began at the tender age of four.
Junior Gymnastics Career (2019-21)
Evans' debut competition in the Welsh Championships in 2019 marked a successful start, with a bronze medal in the espoir division all-around. She followed this with a seventh-place finish in the British Championships' all-around and a silver in the floor exercise.
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic disrupting competitions in 2020, Evans' talent shone through in 2021 at the Elite Gym Massilia, where she placed 13th all-around and seventh on the vault. Her triumph at the British Championships that year, winning the junior all-around, further solidified her status.
2022: Juniors and Breakthrough
Maintaining her winning momentum in 2022, Evans secured both the Welsh and British Championships in the junior division. At the European Youth Olympic Festival, she contributed to Team GB's sixth-place result while claiming a silver medal in vault, trailing Helen Kevrik.
Evans' performance at the European Championships proved equally impressive, helping Great Britain finish fourth. Individually, she placed 13th all-around and fourth on floor exercise. She wrapped up the year with a gold medal on vault and a second-place overall at the Northern European Championships.
Senior Gymnastics Career (2023)
Entering the senior ranks in 2023, Evans made a strong debut at the Cottbus World Cup, earning silver in vault and bronze in floor exercise. She placed fifth all-around at the British Championships but seized the gold on vault.
Evans' career reached new heights when she was selected to represent Great Britain at the 2023 World Championships. As the first Welsh gymnast to compete for Team GB in 17 years, she played a crucial role in their second-place finish in the team final.
Topping off her stellar year, Evans secured gold in the all-around and floor exercise at the Northern European Championships, leading Wales to victory.
2024: European and Olympic Success
Evans' 2024 campaign commenced with a dominant performance at the Welsh Championships, winning gold in all four events. She displayed her talent as a guest competitor at the English Championships, securing gold on floor and silver on beam.
Her consistent excellence earned her a spot on the European Championships team. She contributed significantly to Great Britain's silver medal triumph.
In a historic moment, Evans was selected for Team GB at the 2024 Summer Olympics, becoming the first Welsh gymnast to do so since 1996. Her contribution to the team's fourth-place finish in the Olympic final showcased her exceptional skills and unwavering determination.
