Early Life and College CareerRussell Westbrook was born on November 12, 1988, in Long Beach, California. He attended Leuzinger High School before enrolling at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 2006. During his three seasons with the Bruins, Westbrook emerged as a dynamic guard, averaging 12.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game.
NBA Debut and All-Star Selections
In the 2008 NBA Draft, Westbrook was selected fourth overall by the Seattle SuperSonics (later known as the Oklahoma City Thunder). As a rookie, he made an immediate impact, averaging 15.3 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game. Westbrook was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team following his debut season.
Westbrook has been a consistent All-Star throughout his career, earning eight All-Star Game selections from 2011 to 2013 and 2015 to 2019. In the 2015 NBA All-Star Game, he set the record for most points scored in a half with 27 and was named the game's Most Valuable Player (MVP).

Westbrook has become renowned for his remarkable ability to record triple-doubles, where a player accumulates at least 10 points, rebounds, and assists in a single game. In 2015, he became only the second player in NBA history to average a triple-double over an entire calendar month.
On March 4, 2014, Westbrook notched a triple-double in just 20 minutes and 17 seconds, the fastest triple-double in NBA history at the time. As of 2023, Westbrook has recorded a total of 193 triple-doubles in his career, ranking second all-time behind Oscar Robertson.
Season Records and Awards
In the 2016-17 season, Westbrook became the first player since Oscar Robertson to average a triple-double over an entire NBA regular season. He set the record with 42 triple-doubles, surpassing Robertson's 41 from the 1961-62 season.
Westbrook's impressive performance earned him several accolades, including the NBA Most Valuable Player award and the first of three consecutive All-Star Game MVP awards. He has also been named to nine NBA All-NBA Teams and two NBA All-Defensive Teams.
Career Milestones
Throughout his illustrious career, Westbrook has achieved numerous milestones and broken records. In 2018, he became the fourth player in NBA history to record 100 career triple-doubles.
