Biography of Rusty Burrell
Rusty Burrell, whose full name was Roy Justus Burrell, was born in 1925 in Metropolis, Illinois. He had a diverse career as both a professional athlete and an actor.
Early Life and Sports Career
In his youth, Burrell played in the Minor Baseball League (MBL) for the St. Louis Browns team. Despite his young age, Burrell served in the American military during World War II. He demonstrated great dedication and commitment to his country.
Acting Career
After completing his education, Burrell worked as a bailiff and became a regular participant on the television show "Divorce Court" starting in 1957. For over a decade, from 1957 to 1969, Burrell balanced his real-life job with his television appearances.
In 1981, after 31 years of service, Burrell retired from his job as a bailiff. That same year, he received an offer to join the cast of the TV show "People's Court." This opportunity was initiated by the show's main judge, Joseph A. Wapner, who had been acquainted with Burrell for a long time. Despite the producer's preference of casting a female bailiff, Joseph insisted on having Burrell fill the role. For the next 12 years, each episode began with Burrell's iconic voice saying, "All rise!"
Legacy and Personal Life
Throughout his television career, Burrell became one of the most famous bailiffs in the world. He received positive feedback from almost all of the actors he worked with. Joseph A. Wapner described him as a person with an "incredible sense of humor," capable of understanding people, and a true Christian.
Burrell was married to Clara Burrell, and they had two children named Mark and Larry. On April 15, 2002, at the age of 76, Rusty Burrell passed away. A memorial service was held on April 19 at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, California. Burrell's contributions to the entertainment industry and his dedication to his country will always be remembered.
