Riyad Boudebouz: Algerian Footballer
Early CareerRiyad Boudebouz began his football journey at the tender age of 10 with the youth team of FC Colmar. At 14, he joined the academy of FC Sochaux, making his debut for the club's reserve team at 16.
FC Sochaux
On May 15, 2008, Boudebouz signed a three-year professional contract with FC Sochaux. He made his league debut for the club on October 4, 2008, against OGC Nice. His maiden goal came on November 8, 2008, against Le Mans. In total, Boudebouz played 164 league matches (with 24 goals), 14 cup matches (6 goals), and 2 European matches for Sochaux.
Bastia and Montpellier
In September 2013, Boudebouz joined SC Bastia for a fee of €1 million. He quickly established himself as a regular starter, playing 32 league matches in his first season. In the summer of 2015, he moved to Montpellier HSC.
International Career
Boudebouz initially represented France at youth levels (U17 and U19). However, in 2009, he acquired an Algerian passport and opted to play for their national team. He made his debut for Algeria on May 28, 2010, against the Republic of Ireland. Boudebouz played in one match at the 2010 FIFA World Cup and scored his first international goal in November 2011 against Tunisia.
Conflict and Departure from the National Team
In January 2013, Boudebouz was part of the Algeria squad for the Africa Cup of Nations. During the tournament, he had a disagreement with coach Vahid Halilhodzic. As a result, both Boudebouz and teammate Amir Bouazza were removed from the team and told that they would not be recalled.
