Ryan Hurst is an American stage and screen actor known for his roles as tough and imposing characters, often portraying soldiers and athletes of towering height (Ryan stands at 6 feet 4 inches or 193 cm). He has appeared in a wide range of notable roles throughout his career.
Career Highlights
Some of his most famous roles include Gerry Bertier, the renowned American football defensive player, which he portrayed in the Disney film "Remember the Titans" (2000). He also portrayed Michael, the brother of Allison, in the television series "Medium". In the black comedy film "The Ladykillers" (2004) by the Coen brothers, Hurst played the football player Lump Hudson. He also appeared as Sgt. Savage in the war drama "We Were Soldiers" (2002) and played a prominent role in the crime series "Wanted" on TNT. In "Saving Private Ryan" (1998), Hurst portrayed a paratrooper who temporarily lost his hearing, leading Captain Miller (played by Tom Hanks) to write questions on a piece of paper. Currently, Hurst is known for his role as Harry 'Opie' Winston in the biker series "Sons of Anarchy", where his character is often seen wearing a knitted cap.

Ryan Hurst was born on June 19, 1976, in Santa Monica, California. He is the son of Candy Kaniecki, an acting instructor, and Rick Hurst, a talented character actor. His parents married in 1969 but divorced in 1979 when Ryan was only three years old. He attended Santa Monica High School. On May 8, 2005, this talented actor and aspiring director married his long-time friend, actress Molly Cookson. The couple currently resides in Los Angeles.
Hurst's stage credits include his own adaptation of "Cyrano de Bergerac", in which he played the lead role, at the Santa Monica Civic Light Opera.
