Saara Kuugongelwa was born in 1967 in South West Africa (present-day Namibia). Political Career in Namibia

In 1994, Kuugongelwa returned to an independent Namibia and was invited by the first president, Sam Nujoma, to join his government led by Hage Geingob. From 1995 to 2005, she served as Minister of Planning. She then became Minister of Finance for a decade from 2005 to 2014. In 2014, she was awarded the Second-Class Order of the Sun.

In late 2014, Geingob was elected President of Namibia. He appointed Kuugongelwa as the new Prime Minister. After some deliberation, she accepted and was confirmed by Parliament in March 2015. The Namibian government was sworn in on March 21. Five years later, she was reappointed as Prime Minister.
