Sabine Lisicki: Early Life and Career
Sabine Katharina Lisicki was born on September 22, 1989, in Troisdorf, Germany, to Polish-German parents. Her father, Dr. Richard Lisicki, is a sports scientist, and her mother, Elisabeth Lisicki, is Polish. Lisicki currently resides in Bradenton, Florida, and trains at the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy.
Junior Career and Breakthrough
Lisicki began playing tennis at a young age and had a successful junior career. She achieved a career-high junior ranking of 12 in 2007.
In 2007, Lisicki won two ITF titles and rose to No. 198 in the WTA rankings. She also reached the semifinals of the 2007 Odlum Brown Vancouver Open.
WTA Tour Success
Lisicki made her Grand Slam debut at the 2008 Australian Open, defeating Dinara Safina and Maria Koryttseva before losing to Caroline Wozniacki in the third qualifying round. In 2009, Lisicki reached the semifinals of the Cellular South Cup in Memphis, defeated top-ranked Caroline Wozniacki to win her first WTA title at the Family Circle Cup, and reached the quarterfinals of Wimbledon, where she lost to Dinara Safina.
Lisicki continued to achieve success in 2011, winning her second WTA title at the AEGON Classic and reaching the final of Wimbledon, where she lost to Maria Sharapova. She also won the WTA doubles title at the Rogers Cup with Samantha Stosur in 2011.
Injuries and Recovery
After the 2011 season, Lisicki struggled with injuries, which hindered her performance. She dropped out of the top 100 in 2010 and missed much of the 2012 season due to an ankle injury.
Return to Form
Lisicki made a strong comeback in 2013, winning her third WTA title at the AEGON International. She reached the semifinals of the Wimbledon Championships, losing to Marion Bartoli.
