She studied psychology and English at the University of Sydney. Interestingly, she was crowned Miss Australia 2006 without even participating in the national competition that year. Due to scheduling conflicts, the national competition was canceled, and Sabrina was awarded the title as the second runner-up of the previous year's contest.

In the Miss World 2006 competition, Sabrina performed exceptionally well, finishing in third place overall. She also earned the title of Miss World Asia Pacific. During the semi-finals, she tied in points with a contestant from India. The coveted Miss World title that year went to Tatana Kucharova from the Czech Republic, who, at just 18 years old, became the youngest winner in the competition's history.

The crowning ceremony took place at Sala Kongresowa, the main hall of the Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw, Poland, on September 30, 2006. This was the first time in the history of the pageant that the final was held in a European capital other than London.

On April 4, 2007, Sabrina Houssami passed on her Miss Australia crown to Caroline Pemberton. In September 2009, she participated in the first season of the Australian version of the popular American reality show "The Apprentice." However, Sabrina was eliminated from the show on November 16, 2009, finishing in fifth place.
