Biography of Sacha Guitry

Sacha Guitry (1885-1957) was a French actor and playwright, known for his cleverly constructed plays and witty comedies. He was born on February 21, 1885 in Saint Petersburg, Russia. His father, Lucien Guitry, was a famous French actor, which influenced Sacha's interest in the performing arts.

At the age of twenty-one, Guitry achieved success with his first play "Nono." This marked the beginning of his prolific career, as he went on to write a total of 115 plays and 29 film scripts. His best works were often compared to the comedies of Molière, showcasing his talent for creating well-structured plays.

Guitry became renowned for his portrayal of the "true Gallic lover" in his works. Some of his notable films include "Les Perles de la couronne" (The Pearls of the Crown) and "Le Roman d'un tricheur" (The Story of a Cheat). In 1935, he published his memoir "Mémoires d'un tricheur" (Memories of a Cheat).
