Safar Shakeyev: A Multifaceted Filmmaker from Kazakhstan
Early Life and EducationSafar Shakeyev was born on September 2, 1991, in Kokshetau, Kazakhstan, to renowned composer and songwriter Yerkesh Shakeyev. After graduating from Athenian High School in California in 2010, he pursued Film Production and Directing at Chapman University until 2014. Shakeyev also received additional training in acting and filmmaking from the New York Film Academy in Hollywood.
Film Career
Throughout his young career, Shakeyev showcased his versatility as a filmmaker. He wrote, directed, and edited music videos for Kazakhstani artists, including "Radioveter," "Sport," and "Lyubi Menya." In 2014, he served as a production intern at Caliber Media Company in Los Angeles.
International Recognition
Shakeyev's work gained international acclaim at prestigious film festivals. His film "Facing You" won the Best Experimental Film award at the 2011 National Film Festival for Talented Youth (NFFTY). He was also nominated for NFFTY in 2012 with "One" and 2013 with "Lotus."
Musical Collaborations
Shakeyev played a significant role in his father's musical career. He co-produced and conceptualized Yerkesh Shakeyev's album for piano and cello, recorded at the legendary Abbey Road Studios in London. The album featured world-renowned English musicians John Lenehan and Alexander Baillie.
