Early Life and Education
Samuel Jonathan Reed was born on February 19, 1987, to an Australian farmer in New South Wales. He has an older brother, Rupert, who is also an actor, and a sister, Cailey, who is a producer. Reed attended Trinity Grammar School in Sydney before moving to New York City and then London to pursue his education. In 2010, he graduated with honors from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.
Acting Career
Reed made his screen debut in a minor role in the Australian medical drama "All Saints" while still a student. In 2010, he starred as the titular character in the television film "Capturing Captain Harry," a fictionalized account of an episode in the life of Prince Harry. He went on to play Harry Pearce in his younger years in the tenth season of "Spooks." Additionally, he appeared in the detective series "Endeavour" and the Agatha Christie mystery "Miss Marple."
Breakout Roles and Acclaim
In 2013, Reed gained recognition for his roles as the younger version of Stellan Skarsgård's character in "The Railway Man" and as John Davinier in the historical drama "Belle."
