Biography of Sam Shepard
Sam Shepard was an American actor, playwright, screenwriter, film director, and novelist. He was born on November 5, 1943, in Fort Sheridan, Illinois. His father, Samuel Shepard Rogers Jr., was a teacher and farmer who served as a pilot-bomber in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II. His mother, Jane Elspeth, was a teacher from Chicago.
Shepard passed away on July 27, 2017, at the age of 73, in his home in Kentucky due to complications from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
Works
Sam Shepard was a prolific playwright, and his works include dozens of plays. Some of his plays have been performed in Russian theaters, such as "Fool for Love" at the Saratov Academic Drama Theater (directed by Alexander Galko, 1997), "True West" at the Moscow Drama Theater named after N.V. Gogol (directed by Vyacheslav Sorokin, 2006), and many others.
In 2010, the Saratov Youth Theater began staging a play based on Shepard's work "Curse of the Starving Class" under the direction of Lee Brewer. The New Moscow Drama Theater also staged a play based on Shepard's play "Ages of the Moon" in 2010, directed by Vyacheslav Dolgachev, the artistic director of the theater and an honored artist of Russia.
