Biography of Samantha Eggar
Early Life and CareerSamantha Eggar is an English film, television, and voice actress. She was born as Victoria Louise Samantha Marie Elizabeth Therese Eggar in Hampstead, London, to a British military father and his wife. Despite her mother's disapproval, Eggar chose to pursue acting and embarked on a long journey from small Shakespearean productions to roles in popular TV shows and films. Her career reached its peak with the 1965 film "The Collector," which earned Eggar numerous prestigious awards.

Acting Education and Early Career
Eggar faced opposition from her mother regarding her acting aspirations and was strongly discouraged from attending the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. However, she was allowed to receive training at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art after completing her studies at an art school. Eggar began her acting career in Shakespearean plays and made her first appearance on the big screen in the 1962 film "The Wild and the Willing" and "Dr. Crippen," alongside Donald Pleasence.

Rise to Fame and Personal Life
After portraying a rising Hollywood star in an episode of the TV series "The Saint" in 1963, Eggar decided to focus solely on her work in the film industry. She played a character who replaces a deceased famous actress in a promising project and starts receiving threatening letters. In 1964, Eggar married actor Tom Stern, and they had two children together before divorcing in 1971.

Career Success and Television Roles
Eggar received critical acclaim and a nomination for an Academy Award for her role in the 1965 film "The Collector." Although she did not win the Oscar, she won a Golden Globe and the title of Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival for her performance. In 1966, Eggar starred opposite Cary Grant in the comedy film "Walk Don’t Run." She made a comeback to television in 1972, appearing alongside Yul Brynner in the project "Anna and the King" and later in an episode of "Love Story" in 1973. From the late 1970s to the 2000s, Eggar primarily worked in television, with notable roles in the TV series "Columbo," "Falcon Crest," "Star Trek: The Next Generation," and "Commander in Chief."

Later Career and Voice Acting
In 1997, Eggar provided the voice for Hera in Disney's animated film "Hercules." Two years later, she appeared in the film "The Astronaut's Wife" alongside Johnny Depp. Despite her successful film career, Eggar continued to work predominantly in television. She played various roles, including Captain Picard's sister-in-law in "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and Sarah Templeton, the wife of Donald Sutherland's character, in the short-lived series "Commander in Chief." In 2000, Eggar briefly joined the cast of the popular soap opera "All My Children." She also made appearances in TV shows such as "Cold Case" in 2003 and "Mental" in 2009.
