Sergei Mikhailovich Zelikin

Early Life and Education

Sergei Mikhailovich Zelikin was born on March 18, 1931 in Lysychansk, Ukrainian SSR. He graduated from the Faculty of Journalism at Kharkiv State University in 1953.

Career

From 1958 to 1968, Zelikin worked as a director and screenwriter at the Kharkiv television studio and then at the "Ekran" studio of the USSR Central Television. He also co-led a documentary film workshop at the Higher Film Directing Courses with Leonid Gurevich.

Major Works

Zelikin's documentary films received numerous awards, including:

Grand Prix in Munich and a prize in Adelaide (Australia) for "Toreadors from Vasyukovka"

Prize of the GDR Filmmakers Union at the Leipzig International Film Festival for "Cuban Portraits"

Prize of the City of Leipzig at the Leipzig International Film Festival for "Roads in Peru"

Prize of the Filmmakers Union of the USSR for "Shinov and Others"

Prizes at All-Union television festivals for "Shinov and Others," "From Front to Front," and "Preserve and Multiply"

"Orlyonok" Prize of the Central Committee of the Young Communist League for "Photograph for Remembrance"

Lenin Komsomol Prize (1978) for "Ordinary Space"

Honored Artist of the Russian Federation (1997)
Organizations and Honors

Zelikin was a member of the Union of Cinematographers of Russia, the Board of the Guild of Film Directors of Russia, and the Union of Journalists of the USSR. He was also an academician of the Nika Film Academy and the Eurasian and International Academy of Radio and Television.
