Early Life and Education

Samvel Sergeyevich Saakyan, also known as "Tutun Samo," was born on May 23, 1960, in Yerevan, Armenian SSR. After completing secondary education, he enrolled at the Yerevan Institute of National Economy, graduating in 1982 with a degree in Economics.

Professional Career

Saakyan's professional journey began in 1977-78 as an armature installer at the Yerevan Reinforced Concrete Plant No. 5. After graduating in 1982, he worked as an economist at the Yerevan "Electron" Plant.

Military Service and Return to Economics

In 1982-84, Saakyan served in the Soviet army. Upon his return, he resumed his role as an economist at the Yerevan "Electron" Plant from 1984-85. From 1985-90, he held various accounting positions at the "Armtabak" Production Association.

Entrepreneurial Pursuits

From 1990-97, Saakyan served as the chief accountant at "Grand Akumb" JSC in Yerevan. He then progressed to senior economist, financial director, and executive director at "Grand Tobacco" LLC, an Armenian-Canadian joint venture, from 1997-99.

Continuing his entrepreneurial ventures, Saakyan became the executive director of "Masis Tobacco M. V." LLC in Masis from 2000-03.

Political Career

On May 25, 2003, Saakyan entered the political arena as a member of the Standing Committee on Financial and Credit, Budgetary, and Economic Issues of the National Assembly. He remains a non-partisan politician.
