Biography of Sandis Ozolinsh
Sandis Ozolinsh is a Latvian defenseman who gained fame for publicly correcting former US President Bill Clinton. While traditionally hosting the Stanley Cup winners at the White House, Clinton mistakenly referred to Ozolinsh as "Ozolinskim." The player didn't hesitate to make the correction, and Clinton apologized, mentioning his positive impressions of Riga, the capital of Latvia. Ozolinsh appreciated the acknowledgment from one of the most productive defensemen of the late 90s. He also noted Clinton's confession that he had never been to a hockey game in his life. Since then, Ozolinsh hasn't met with Clinton, which is not surprising since the US president only meets with hockey players on special occasions, such as winning the Stanley Cup. "Avalanche" hasn't won the Cup in the past four seasons, although it seemed like they were the top contender when Colorado defeated Detroit in May of the previous year. Ozolinsh himself can be satisfied with his achievements. In the current season, he leads all defensemen in scoring and has been selected to the All-Star Game starting lineup for the second time in his career. However, Ozolinsh's main goal now is to win another Cup and once again visit the White House.
