Biography of Sarah Craven

Early Life and Career

Sarah Craven, born Anne Bushell in 1938, is a British writer. Growing up in Devon, England, she was surrounded by books and developed a love for reading at a young age. At the age of four, with the help of an evacuated Londoner residing in their home, she started reading "Treasure Island". She continued to be enthralled by romantic novels from the library, finding solace in their captivating stories. At the age of 11, she even wrote her own novel just a month before her final exams. Although there was no happy ending, this experience sparked her love for writing.

After working as a journalist for a local newspaper, Craven got married and moved to northern England, where she worked as a school teacher. However, her marriage didn't last long, and she found herself back in the field of journalism. Joining the "Middlesbrough Writers' Society", she found inspiration from her new friends and started writing her first novel, which took two years to complete. In 1975, her first novel, "Garden of Dreams", was published by Mills & Boon, and she was offered a permanent position at the publishing company.

Writing Career and Achievements

Craven, writing under the pseudonym Sarah Craven, went on to publish over 80 novels. Her mastery of storytelling and writing style earned her recognition and praise from both readers and critics. In 2010, she became the head of the regional conference of writers in South Britain, and in 2011-2012, she served as the president of the Romantic Novelists' Association.

Her novels have been translated into more than 20 languages, including Russian. Readers often praise her beautiful language, dynamic plots, and the lack of negative reviews. Craven acknowledges that the romance genre may be unique, but she is proud of her work and believes that if readers enjoy her books, then she should continue writing them.

In addition to her literary achievements, Craven won the intellectual TV show "Mastermind" in 1997 under her real name. She continues to live in Rugby, England, with her white terrier, Berley Worcester, and enjoys her vast collection of books and videos. Despite her age, Craven is still full of creative plans, with several new books expected to be released in 2014. She also loves traveling and has a special fondness for France, Greece, Italy, and New York, where her beloved twin grandchildren reside. Craven's love for music, theater, old films, and good restaurants adds richness to her life and fuels her creativity.
