Sara Fazeli is an American writer and actress. She has had a successful career in both fields, but her personal life has been filled with challenges and heartbreak.
A Missed Opportunity
Fazeli realized that her choice of life partner had cost her 12 years of her life. Unfortunately, she later discovered that during that time, she had missed out on one of the most important chances in her life – the chance to become a mother. The harsh verdict from doctors was clear - Sara Fazeli would never have her own children.
A Failed Marriage
During her 12-year marriage, Fazeli was unable to have children. She not only wanted children, but she dreamt of them, imagining their names, envisioning family trips to Disneyland, evenings playing the piano together, and even the day they would go off to college. Unfortunately, her partner did not share the same priorities, and Sara realized this too late.
The Decision to Freeze Her Eggs
After her divorce, Sara Fazeli realized that she could not wait any longer. At 40 years old, she knew that time was running out for her to have biological children. Thankfully, two of her friends had already undergone the procedure that could potentially solve her problem - egg freezing. Sara wasted no time and contacted the doctors right away.
The Process
At USC Fertility, Dr. Karine Chung explained the procedure to Sara in detail. It closely resembled in vitro fertilization (IVF). The frozen eggs would later be fertilized through artificial means, with a success rate of approximately 1 in 3. Sara was advised to undergo three cycles of IVF to increase her chances of success. This timeline aligned perfectly with Sara's plan to have children within the next year or two.
A Devastating Diagnosis
Before starting the procedures, Sara had to undergo a basic blood test to determine her anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH) levels. This hormone would indicate the number of remaining eggs and determine the complexity of the procedure. Unfortunately, the results were devastating. Sara's AMH levels were extremely low, indicating that her chances of success were only 3% at best. Additional tests confirmed this harsh diagnosis.
A Glimmer of Hope
Despite the devastating news, Sara refused to give up. She explored alternative options suggested by doctors, such as using donor eggs or adopting a child. While she plans to seriously consider these options in the future, she is currently unable to think about anything practical. The thought that she will never have her own child weighs heavily on her, knowing that she will never be able to look into the eyes of a child that she created with her own body.
