Biography of Sarah Murnaghan
Sarah Murnaghan is a 10-year-old American girl who suffers from cystic fibrosis. Her story has caused quite a stir in American society and has once again brought up the painful topic of organ donation. However, Sarah herself is not interested in the attention surrounding her. What matters to her is that after six months in the hospital, she can finally go home.
A Battle for Organs
Those in need of organ transplants often wait for months on special lists. Unfortunately, spare lungs, kidneys, and livers do not grow on trees, and obtaining them comes at the cost of someone's life. Sarah Murnaghan was luckier than most, as she received two sets of adult lungs in a relatively short period of time. However, securing the right to receive these organs was not easy for Sarah's parents; they had to fight for their daughter's right to be placed on the adult lung transplant list in court.
A Risky Journey
On July 12th, Sarah received her first transplant, but the new lungs quickly failed, leading to another transplant just three days later. The second operation was even riskier, as the lungs were infected with pneumonia. Despite this setback, Sarah managed to overcome the illness. Her home was decorated in celebration of her return, with balloons and a giant banner reading "Welcome Home, Sarah." For a while, Sarah was on the brink of death, making her homecoming truly a cause for celebration.
Recovery and Future
With her new lungs, Sarah no longer needs artificial ventilation. However, her journey to full recovery is far from over. Currently, her main goal is to rebuild her weakened muscles, which were affected during her hospital stay. She is using a special tube for breathing, but this is only temporary. There is no doubt that Sarah will regain her strength and no longer require additional devices. She plans to recover "slowly but surely" and understands the challenges that lie ahead. Despite this, her determination can overcome any obstacle.
Back to Normalcy
For now, Sarah is enjoying the simple joys of childhood. She is playing with her siblings and will soon resume her education at home for the 5th grade. This should not be a major problem for her, considering what she has already overcome with her cystic fibrosis. Sarah has managed to conquer all the challenges that came her way, but unfortunately, others may not be as fortunate.
Fighting for Change
Sarah's parents are not content with just their daughter's miraculous recovery. They plan to launch a campaign to revise the existing policies for organ transplant waiting lists. These rules could have cost their daughter her life, and that is why the Murnaghan couple is prepared to do whatever it takes to change them. If they succeed, future young organ candidates will not have to fight for their right to receive adult transplants in court. The battle will be tough, but the Murnaghans are not afraid of challenges. They have already experienced a touch of divine intervention in their lives, and now their future is in their hands.
