Early Life and Career
Sarah Kate Silverman was born on December 1, 1970, in Bedford, New Hampshire. Her parents, Donald and Beth Ann, raised her in a Jewish household, and her family has Hungarian, Polish, French, and Slovak ancestry. Silverman made her public debut at twelve years old in community theater and participated in the local television show "Community Auditions" at fifteen.
By seventeen, Silverman was performing stand-up comedy in restaurants and singing the song "Mammaries." She continued her career in Greenwich Village, where she gained national attention as a writer and recurring cast member on "Saturday Night Live" from 1993 to 1994. After a year on the program, Silverman was let go and famously parodied her own termination notice.
