Early Life and Education

Šarūnas Bartas, a renowned Lithuanian filmmaker, was born in 1964 in Šiauliai, Lithuania. He completed his film education at the prestigious Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography (VGIK) in Moscow in 1991, where he studied under the guidance of esteemed mentors Victor Lisakovich and Irakly Kvirikadze.

Founding of KineMa

In 1989, Bartas made history by establishing Lithuania's first independent film studio, KineMa, in Vilnius. This groundbreaking initiative paved the way for greater creative freedom and experimentation within the Lithuanian film industry.

International Recognition

Bartas's talent gained global recognition in 1998 when he was appointed as a member of the jury at the 55th Venice International Film Festival. His contributions to cinema were further acknowledged in 2001 with the prestigious National Prize in the field of Culture and Arts.
