Early Life and Career

Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Scott Wilson moved to Los Angeles in 1961 at the age of nineteen. He pursued acting and made his film debut in 1967's "In the Heat of the Night." In the same year, he landed a lead role in Richard Brooks' "In Cold Blood," portraying Richard Hickock, one of the murderers of the Clutter family. The film's success propelled Wilson's career, and on May 12, 1967, he graced the cover of Life magazine at just twenty-four years old.

Film and Television Success

Throughout his career, Wilson appeared in over sixty films. In the 1970s, he played supporting roles in "Butterflies Are Free," "The New Centurions," and "The Great Gatsby." He earned a Golden Globe nomination in 1981 for his performance in "The Ninth Configuration" with Stacy Keach. Subsequent film credits include "The Right Stuff," "Malone," "Johnny Handsome," "The Exorcist III," "Young Guns II," "Pure Luck," "Geronimo: An American Legend," "Judge Dredd," "The Green Mile," "G.I. Jane," "Pearl Harbor," "Monster," and many others. In 2007, he received the Screen Actors Guild Award for Lifetime Achievement.

In recent years, Wilson primarily focused on television roles. He portrayed Marj Helgenberger's father in the crime drama "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" from 2001 to 2006. He also guest-starred in "The X-Files" and "Law & Order." In 2011, Wilson joined the cast of the hit AMC series "The Walking Dead" as Herschel Greene. His performance received critical acclaim, and despite plans for his character to be killed off at the end of season two, positive fan and critical reaction prompted the showrunners to spare him and invite Wilson to return for seasons three and four.

Personal Life and Legacy
