Biography of Seamus Dever

Seamus Dever, an American theater and television actor known for his roles in numerous TV series, began performing at the age of six. His first play, in which he landed a role, was the school production of "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof". Over the past 25 years, he has performed in over 50 productions.

Early Life

Seamus Dever was born on July 27, 1976, in Flint, Michigan, and moved to Bullhead City, Arizona as a child. His mother is a history professor, while his father teaches English and drama. In school, Seamus was the vice president of the student council and delivered the farewell speech at the graduation ceremony. By the time he enrolled at Northern Arizona University to study theater and radio journalism, he had already acted in 18 plays and musicals. In college, he accomplished a great feat by reading the complete works of Shakespeare and performing in 15 of his plays. During his studies, Seamus joined the news team at the university radio and participated in the theater studio.

Professional Career

After graduating from college with honors in just three years, Seamus was accepted into the prestigious private Carnegie Mellon University and its Acting Conservatory. This program allowed him to travel between Boston, Pittsburgh, and Moscow, where he learned from the best stage artists of the United States and Russia. The Russian teachers introduced Seamus to the Stanislavski system. At the age of 21, Seamus completed his university education and settled in Los Angeles.

Working in a Los Angeles theater allowed him to participate in numerous productions and introduced him to many people in the film industry. His role as the sadistic and murderous Alex in the theatrical version of "A Clockwork Orange" earned him rave reviews from critics and multiple nominations for various theater awards. The pinnacle of his theater career was winning a Tony Award.

Television viewers best know Seamus Dever for his roles as Dr. Chris Ferlinghetti in "Army Wives" and Dr. Ian Devlin in "General Hospital," a series that has been on the air since 1963 and is still running. As a guest star, he has appeared in many popular TV shows, including "CSI: Miami," "CSI: NY," "Charmed," "Mad Men," "Ghost Whisperer," and others. Seamus's most recent work is the charming detective Kevin Ryan in the hit series "Castle," where he investigates crimes alongside renowned writer Richard Castle, detective Kate Beckett, and his partner Javier Esposito.

Personal Life

Seamus Dever's wife, Juliana, is also an actress. They own two rescue dogs. Among Seamus's hobbies are playing the piano, carpentry, basketball, running, boxing, cycling, yoga, and strength training. Additionally, he teaches acting himself.
