Biography of Sebastien Grainger
Sebastien Grainger is a Canadian musician known for his dedication to the traditions of the New York underground scene of the 1970s. He rose to fame as one half of the dance-punk duo 'Death from Above 1979', which he formed in Toronto in 2001 with Jesse F. Keeler. The duo, consisting of Grainger as the drummer and vocalist and Keeler as the bassist, gained attention for their unique and interesting sound.
Despite their success, the duo often played pranks on their fans, claiming to have met in various unconventional places such as prison, a pirate ship, or a gay bar. However, some sources suggest that Grainger and Keeler actually met at a rock concert. Regardless, the pair quickly gained recognition and began recording in Canada, the UK, and the US.
In 2004, Death from Above 1979 released their debut album 'You're A Woman, I'm A Machine', followed by 'Romance Bloody Romance: Remixes & B-Sides' in 2005. However, in 2006, the duo announced their breakup, with Keeler sharing the news on the official band website.
Following the split, Grainger embarked on a successful solo career with the project 'Sebastien Grainger & The Mountains'. His debut solo album, also titled 'Sebastien Grainger & The Mountains', was praised as one of the best rock creations in recent years. Grainger remained true to the traditions of the 1970s New York underground scene throughout his solo career.
In addition to his solo work, Grainger has been involved in other projects such as 'Girl On Girl', 'The Rhythm Method', and 'Bad †i†s'. He continues to record and perform in North America, often joined by bassist Nick Sewell, drummer Leon Taheny, and guitarist/keyboardist Andrew Scott.
In 2009, Grainger participated in the interactive documentary series 'City Sonic', alongside twenty other Canadian artists. Interestingly, Grainger has already come up with numerous names for his "future rock bands". To protect his ownership of these names, he sent himself an email containing the list of potential band names as evidence in case anyone tries to steal them.
On February 4, 2011, Sebastien Grainger officially announced the reunion of Death from Above 1979 on their website.
