Sima Malhotra: A Trailblazing Labour Politician

Early Life and Education

Sima Malhotra was born in London in 1972. She graduated with a degree from the University of Warwick.

Professional Career

Before entering politics, Malhotra worked as a management consultant for Accenture and PricewaterhouseCoopers. She also founded and led the Fabian Women's Network, an organization within the Fabian Society.

Political Journey

Advisor and Special Assistant

During the Labour Party's time in power, Malhotra served as an advisor to ministers Liam Byrne and Ian Austin. After Labour's electoral defeat in 2010, she became a special assistant to the party's new leader, Harriet Harman.

Member of Parliament

In December 2011, Malhotra won a by-election in the Feltham and Heston constituency, becoming the first Indian-origin woman to be elected as a Labour MP.

Shadow Cabinet Roles

Shadow Minister for Preventing Violence Against Women and Girls

Under Ed Miliband's shadow cabinet, Malhotra was appointed to the newly created position of Shadow Minister for Preventing Violence Against Women and Girls.
