Early Life and Education
Nikolai Belayevsky was born on February 3, 1913, in Shiroko-Atamanovsky, Oblast Voyska Donskogo, Russia. He received an initial secondary education and worked as an accountant at a grain farm.
Military Service
Belayevsky joined the Red Army in February 1942 and fought in the Great Patriotic War. In 1943, he completed training as a junior lieutenant and served as a platoon commander in the 100th Guards Rifle Regiment, 35th Guards Rifle Division, 8th Guards Army, 1st Belorussian Front.
Heroism During World War II
On August 1, 1944, during the crossing of the Vistula River south of Magnuszew, Poland, Belayevsky's platoon captured a bridgehead on the left bank, allowing other units to cross. Despite being wounded, Belayevsky continued to lead the battle. For his bravery, he was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union in 1945.
Post-War Life
Belayevsky served in the reserves as a senior lieutenant from 1946 until his retirement. He became a member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) in 1944.
Death and Legacy
Nikolai Belayevsky passed away in 1983 in Morozovsk, Rostov Oblast, Russia. His heroism and sacrifice during World War II remain remembered and honored in his hometown.
