Early Life and Education
Semen Sergiyovych Serbin was born on February 4, 1910, in the town of Troitsk, Orenburg Governorate, Russian Empire. In 1928, he graduated from the Troitsk School of Pedagogy and was appointed director of the elementary school in the village of Fershampenoise. After completing agriculture courses, Serbin became director of a school for the youth of the collective farm and a section agronomist in the Prechistenskoye branch of the Chkalov District, Chkalov Oblast.
Military Service and Agricultural Career
In 1932, Serbin was conscripted into the Red Army. After his discharge in 1934, he worked as a senior agronomist at the Kostekskaya Machine and Tractor Station. Serbin served in the Great Patriotic War.
Research and Academic Work
From 1946, Serbin worked as a research associate at the All-Union Research Institute of Sugar Beet until March 1953. He then held positions in the Science and Culture Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine and at the Kamyanets-Podilsky Agricultural Institute, where he was appointed deputy director for academic and scientific work in April 1956. In August of the same year, he was elected head of the Department of Biology.
Rectorship and Legacy
Serbin served as rector of the Kamyanets-Podilsky Agricultural Institute from 1957 to 1980. He was a delegate to the 24th Congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. Serbin passed away in 1986 in Khmelnytsky.
Recognition and Honors
Serbin was awarded the title of Doctor of Biological Sciences and Professor. His contributions to the field of agriculture and academia were recognized through numerous awards and honors.
