Early Life and Career

Sergey Kuznetsov was born in Kharkiv, Ukraine, in 1982. His father, also named Sergey Kuznetsov, played for Ferencváros in Hungary, where young Sergey took his first steps in football.

Professional Career

In 2000, Kuznetsov joined Finnish club Jokerit, where he won a silver medal. He briefly trained with Spartak Moscow but was not offered a contract.

Returning to Ferencváros in 2001, Kuznetsov helped the club win the Hungarian Cup and finish second and third in the league. He then spent stints in Belarus with Gomel and in Moldova with Sheriff.

From 2005 to 2006, Kuznetsov played on loan for Ukrainian side Vorskla and Lithuanian club Vetra, where he became the league's top scorer as the first foreign player to achieve this feat.

Russian and Ukrainian Leagues

In 2007, Kuznetsov joined Russian second-tier club Nosta, becoming the team's second-highest scorer. He later joined Karpaty Lviv in Ukraine, where he signed a two-and-a-half-year contract.

Later Career and Retirement

From 2011 to 2014, Kuznetsov played for Sevastopol in Ukraine. After Crimea's annexation by Russia, the team was dissolved.

He then moved to Hoverla Uzhhorod and Metallurg Kharkiv before briefly returning to football with Balkany in 2018. Kuznetsov retired from playing in July 2018.

Coaching Career

In 2018, Kuznetsov joined Spartak Moscow's coaching staff under Oleg Kononov. He served as an assistant coach from 2018 to 2019, before being appointed interim head coach after Kononov's departure.
